Watamu is a serene town located along the north coast of Kenya and is well known for its white sandy beaches and clear blue waters. Whether you go there to relax or indulge in some adventure, Watamu has something to offer you! This is our favourite way of spending a day in Watamu.

 We love a lazy, laid back morning when on holiday so we would start our day at 9.30am and have delicious breakfast at the resort. 

 For all those history buffs out there, start your day at Gede Ruins. Gede Ruins are the remains of a Swahili town whose origins date back to the 12th Century. However, its new town walls were rebuilt in the 15th and 16th Centuries. The Ruins take you back in time as you would be able to walk through mosques, palaces and houses all nestled in a thriving forest. It is said that the area was abandoned in the first half of the 17th Century and was rediscovered in the early 20th Century.

 Explore the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, next to the Gede ruins for a chance to encounter three globally threatened species of mammals; the Ader’s Duiker, the Sokoke Bushy Tailed Mongoose and the Golden-rumpled Elephant Shrew. It is also a bird watchers heaven!

 After lunch, take a dolphin tour on a boat and spend some time with these beautiful creatures. 

 Head to Lichthaus for some sundowners and a light dinner before heading back to the resort for the rest of the evening.

Sun, sand and beach are all we need. But sometimes, we have that itch to explore corners of the world that we haven’t before. Wasini island is a boat trip away from Diani and makes for an adventure filled, beauty packed excursion.

 Wasini Island is approximately 47.2km away from Diani whose population is about 3,000. This quaint island is a little slice of paradise. On the way to the island by boat, chances are you will see a breathtaking variety of land and seascapes. From coral reefs, to mangroves and if you are lucky, some dolphins and humpback whales.

 Upon arrival at the island, you will receive a warm reception from the locals and a tour around the village where you can immerse yourself in the local culture and take in the unique lifestyles of the people of Wasini Island.

 Then, you will head to a local restaurant for a sumptuous lunch of some delicious seafood all while taking in the beautiful view of the beach and ocean. Head back to the boat and head to the marine park where you will have the opportunity to  check out the abundant sea life that the coast of Wasini has to offer.
